Nakano-Momiji-yama Fall Foliage
In the Edo period, over 100 Maple trees were transplanted here from Kyoto’s famous foliage sites, and ever since Nakano-Momiji-yama has been famed for its fall leaves. The contrast between the lovely fall leaves and rushing white waterfall is exceptional, leading to the area being called Tohoku’s Little Arashiyama, after Arashiyama in Kyoto. Most years, the best viewing season is mid-October to early November, and the leaves are lit up at night during the season for a different flavor of the normal daytime sight.
